Longboat Café

seafront café restaurant | budleigh salterton

On the seafront in beautiful Budleigh…

Sitting right in the middle of the beach with uninterrupted views of Lyme Bay lies the Longboat Café, now under new management and bursting with fishy potential.

Local shellfish specialists Exmouth Mussels Ltd have joined up with husband and wife team Spider and Angie to develop a partnership where crab, lobster, mussels, oysters, scallops and any local fish that swims around within 5 miles of your table will be served with a warm and friendly beachshack experience…at least that is the plan but we have a bit of fettling to do so please bear with us.

Our boats (‘Calypso’ and ‘Alibi’) fish daily from Exmouth and the Longboat is a super spot to eat but it still needs someone with a passion to make the magic happen and that is where Spider comes in. He spent years on top of the water, years under the water as a commercial diver and is now at sea level conjuring up delightful seafood experiences for us all.  He is a true master of the house –  this man has a huge personality so engage with caution! If there is something on the menu that you can’t see or want “tweaking” Spider will be happy to help if he can.

Angie is front of house, another massive personality with an irrepressable desire to keep everything and everyone in order. If you stand still too long you will be sprayed, wiped and put on a shelf… Angie brings order and efficiency and has insisted that we serve Yorkshire tea. We were too scared to argue. If you have any specific requirements, Angie will do her best to help including information regarding dietary requirements and food allergies.

Wherever possible, we source our products from quality food producers in Devon. Our ice cream is from Holsworthy, our coffee is hand roasted in Buckfastleigh and many of our cakes are handmade in Exmouth by Susie’s Devonshire Cakes. The tea is from…lets not talk about where the tea comes from.

We love seeing walkers and cyclists stop off for a break at The Longboat. If you think you would like to use us as a stop and you are a big group, please use the number on the website to let us know in advance so we can be ready for you.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard!

Longboat Café team, Budleigh Salterton.
